Neighbor and Community Benefit

How will this project help Pasadena and the immediate neighbors?

This research and development office and lab building on Green St. will help activate Pasadena's vision to be a hub for innovation, reaping local benefits of economic development and excellent careers.

The new building will provide facilities needed to support new research and development companies as they grow, keeping new businesses local.

While Caltech faculty have spun off hundreds of businesses since 1990, most of these faculty spin-offs have reluctantly moved to more established hubs, such as San Diego, to get the mix of office and lab space they need, taking private investment dollars and high-quality jobs with them. However, when they put down roots here in Pasadena, faculty businesses typically build and renovate locally rather than move as they grow.

Caltech and Pasadena City College equip graduates to work in the life sciences and biotech. The workforce is here but opportunities need to catch up so we can retain Pasadena talent in Pasadena.

This project will benefit Pasadena and the immediate neighborhood with rewarding careers, access to internships and training/talks, and the potential to attract more excellence once firmly rooted.

Caltech and Trammell Crow Co. and its contractors recognize the disturbances caused by construction. Trammell Crow Co. will work with neighbors to minimize the impact of construction activity, and Caltech will provide regular updates.
